It was a pleasure to meet and photograph Kristi Toliver. She is a Maryland Terps all-time great that is infamous for 'THE SHOT' vs Duke in 2006 as a freshman. (It can be seen in the video below at :51 seconds.) Yet as I spoke to Kristi, all I could think about was seeing 'THE SHOT' hundreds of times and constantly hearing the expression "She's got ice in her veins." I wondered, aside from her basketball greatness, who is Kristi Toliver?
Then the arena big screen played a uniquely-special #FearlessWomen video. At the :42 second mark, Kristi Toliver appeared. As we watched, I asked "Did you cry the first time you saw that video?" She nodded her head as she blushed with a smile. That is when I appreciated Kristi Toliver is 'Badass & Beautiful'.
Whenever I see an inbound play originating under the basket, I fondly think of the greatest inbound play I've ever witnessed! Former Terp point guard star, Keith Gatlin, saw North Carolina's Kenny Smith with his back to him, so Gatlin calmly threw the ball off Smith's back. It didn't even bounce on the Dean Dome court, but rather directly back into Keith's hands for an easy uncontested layup.
