I arrived at the game before Bruno Fernando came to the court for pregame warmups. I enjoyed watching him play at the University of Maryland and was really interested to see how his talents translated to the NBA. Unfortunately, aside from both Bruno and me being Terp alumni, we also had something very unfortunate in common. We both lost our Moms at an early age. My mom died from cancer while I was a student at Maryland, she was just 45 years old. In early 2020, Bruno also lost his Mom as she died at the young age of 56.
The first thing I noticed when Bruno walked onto the Washington Wizards basketball court was his purple Nike shoes that he wrote personal notes on. I tried to capture the essence of his tribute in a few pictures herein.
The former Terp Kevin Huerter, had a spectacular showing with 11 assists, setting a new career-high in his return to the DMV. He also finished with 14 points, marking the third double-double of his career.
